Error When Changing Lang file

I have tried to edit the en-gb lang file so that "kg" is changed to "lb" and "country" is changed to "state."

When I tested the cart i get several errors.

The real problem has come now that I have returned the file to its original state and I am still getting the errors.

I have cleared my chache on both the site and on my computer, but still the errors appear.

Please help with this issue.

I should add also that there also errors in the controllers/cart.php

And checkout.php.

Oddly though the system still sends it to checkout through Paypal.

I would really like to make the changes listed above to the language file without these errors.

i read where file should be saved as a utf-8 file, which is how it is saved using standard notebook editor.

is this possibly a permissions issue?

use notepad ++ (save as utf-8 without BOM)

Thanks for the reply. Babel pad also worked. Users here should be warned of using windows notepad.
