Need to connect category/product in Joomlashop to my side menu

Need to connect category/product in Joomlashop to my side menu

I'm a complete novice and think I'm biting off more than I can chew here! I have set up Joomlashopping as far as I can adding categories and products + other configuration but I cannot work out how I link the shopping cart to show as pages on my site. I have set up a side menu and get the category items showing but when I click them no product pages show. I know this is probably something easy that I'm missing but am beginning to lose the will to live now! Can anyone help please?
