User application for group change

Hello, is it possible somehow for user to choose what group he want to belong to and after registration his choice would be approve?

It is like: some buyers are "from street" and some are "poffesionals", professionals have discounts but need to prove that they are professionals. Now they email theur details in PDF and after this their group can be changed.

Is it possible that new user could apply to be a professional during register but become a pro only after approval.

Also maybe some specific registration fields can be added?
