Joomshopping Addons: Dependent characteristics

A smart product filter — the customer first picks the brand, and the model list narrows automatically to the ones that really belong to that brand instead of a long irrelevant list of values.

Important: the addon is used together with the “Filter product extended” module.

Features

• A "parent → child" hierarchy between product characteristics (extra fields): the values of a child characteristic are tied to a particular value of the parent (the values "A3, A5" to the parent "Audi", "X1, X5" to "BMW", for example)
• Works with "list" (select) type characteristics only — it integrates with the "Filter product extended" module, feeding the filter only the values that belong to the active parent value
• The backend gets the parent/child relation management right on the editing tab of the product characteristics and their values
• Storage: adds a parent column to the #__jshopping_products_extra_fields and #__jshopping_products_extra_field_values tables

How to use

1. Create the characteristics (screenshot 1):
   • Brend — parent: empty
   • Model — parent: Brend
2. Create the values of the characteristics (screenshot 2):
   • Brend: Audi, Mercedes, BMW
   • Model: A3, A5 — parent Audi; X1, X5 — parent BMW, and so on
3. Specify the characteristics for the products (screenshot 3)
4. Output the product filter with the Filter product extended module — only the dependent values can be selected there (screenshot 4)
